AUSTIN, Texas (PRWEB) October 22, 2008

“Cloud computing offers tremendous benefits to our customers that complement our traditional managed hosting services,” said Lanham Napier, CEO, Rackspace Hosting. “Being a leader in hosting means being a leader in the cloud. Today, we made clear our intent to have the best suite of cloud offerings. Our new offerings are part of a strategy to bring cloud benefits to all businesses with simple, cost-effective products that everyone can use, backed by the best customer support that only Rackspace can deliver.”

Rackspace’s acquisition of two innovators in the cloud community, Slicehost and Jungle Disk, bring proven solutions to the suite including on-demand, virtualized servers and online storage software and services, respectively. Slicehost is a leader in Xen-based virtual machine hosting with more than 15,000 “slices” online today. Jungle Disk offers reliable cloud storage solutions that allow users to easily share an unlimited amount of cloud storage between multiple users through a secure, mountable network drive and automatic backup. Over time, Rackspace intends to integrate their capabilities into its complete hosting portfolio to provide business customers a suite of hosting solutions to meet all of their IT needs.

“On-demand computing is the new foundation of hosting,” said Jason Seats, founder, Slicehost. “Rackspace gives us the ability to expand the Slicehost offer and meet the needs of the corporate world whose interest in cloud technologies has only just begun. In addition, no one else shares our customer first service philosophy more than Rackspace. It is an obvious fit.”

“Rackspace is a natural fit for the next evolution of Jungle Disk,” said Dave Wright, CEO and founder, Jungle Disk. “We are creating a set of storage solutions that will help solve rapidly-growing storage problems for businesses. We believe that no one could take this solution to the business world better than Rackspace. Together we will push the cloud revolution and make simple and cost effective storage solutions available to businesses of all sizes.”

Rackspace is quickly developing one of the most comprehensive hosting solution suites ranging from dedicated managed servers and hosted email solutions to highly scalable cloud hosting and storage services based on open standards and technologies. Combined, IT departments and small businesses now have a full range of tools to power their computing needs.

Cloud Hosting Portfolio

Rackspace’s cloud strategy is supported by three core offerings, all part of Mosso, Rackspace’s Cloud Hosting Division. The company’s existing Hosting Cloud and CloudFS storage offerings have been re-branded to reflect the company’s newly integrated approach:

Cloud Sites — Rackspace’s flagship cloud offering, The Hosting Cloud, is now Cloud Sites. Developed by Mosso, Rackspace’s cloud division, it offers a scalable platform for handling huge traffic spikes and a pay-as-you-grow pricing model. Cloud Sites is a heterogeneous environment, supporting both Windows and Linux. Cloud Files — Rackspace’s internet-based storage service, CloudFS, is now Cloud Files. Cloud Files gives developers instant access to an enterprise-grade storage infrastructure and reduces overall investment and IT costs while providing infinite scalability. Cloud Files offers an industry leading SLA and a highly competitive pricing model with replicated storage starting at $ 0.15/GB. Also later this year, Limelight Networks will team with Rackspace to allow developers to easily distribute content to millions of end users around the world and bring scalable content delivery and application acceleration services to the masses. While continuing to support the Amazon S3 platform, Jungle Disk will port to Rackspace’s Cloud Files system in the coming months. Jungle Disk comes in both desktop and workgroup editions across the Windows, Mac and Linux platforms. Cloud Servers — This new hosting solution, which will deliver on-demand server capacity to businesses of all sizes, will leverage key technology developed by Slicehost, which uses Xen virtualization software. Slicehost will remain as the company’s developer brand, creating innovative new features driven through shared intellectual property in conjunction with development initiatives from Rackspace. As part of the announcement, Slicehost also announced new, larger slices for high performance computing, lower prices as well as IP sharing for high availability computing. Rackspace also announced widespread community interest in their cloud suite. A wide set of cloud tool companies have expressed intent to support the Rackspace cloud. The list of companies includes RightScale, CohesiveFT, rPath, SOASTA and Vertica. In addition, Sonian Networks, the leader in cloud mail archiving solutions, and Mailtrust, the Email Hosting division of Rackspace announced they had reached an agreement to offer low cost archiving to Mailtrust’s 100,000+ business domains. Through this agreement, Sonian Networks will also port their solution to the Rackspace cloud suite.

The purchase price of the combined acquisitions is approximately $ 11.5 million payable in cash and stock, with the potential for up to $ 16.5 million in additional payouts of cash and stock based on certain performance criteria.

Carpathia Hosting Provides New Managed Enterprise Cloud Solutions for Enterprises and Government Agencies

Ashburn, VA (PRWEB) June 2, 2009

Carpathia Hosting, the leading provider of enterprise managed hosting services for government agencies and businesses, announced today it has been selected by organizations such as Echo360, Nuvolus, Ventraq, Voices Heard Media and a leading federal systems integrator to provide customized managed cloud solutions using its Carpathia AlwaysOn/InstantOn hybrid model.

AlwaysOn/InstantOn is the first managed cloud solution designed for enterprises, differentiating Carpathia Hosting from industry competitors. Components of the AlwaysOn/InstantOn model are highly flexible and can be used to design custom solutions to meet the specific needs of individual organizations. Already, multiple enterprises and government agencies have deployed the solution within their enterprises.

Echo360

Echo360 sought a managed solution that would allow its higher education customers to have a reliable and stable hosting environment for on-demand access to university lectures. The customized solution designed by Carpathia Hosting utilizes Carpathia AlwaysOn capacity for the predictable portion of Echo360’s workload, and then will provide Carpathia InstantOn to allow bursting into the Carpathia Hosting storage and compute cloud in the future when usage peaks.

“Carpathia Hosting evaluated the entire problem we were trying to solve. The one-to-one design support provided by Carpathia Hosting resulted in a solution with the reliability of dedicated resources, and in the future, the cost savings associated with the benefits of a ‘burstable’ cloud computing model,” said Mark Jones, President of Echo360.

Nuvolus

Delivering virtual desktop solutions to the healthcare industry presents many challenges. Not only does Nuvolus have to ensure compliance with regulatory standards such as HIPAA, it also must achieve a cost model that drives down the IT cost for healthcare providers. Nuvolus selected the Carpathia AlwaysOn/InstantOn solution to meet these challenges. By using dedicated and cloud services tied together with Carpathia Cloud Orchestration, Nuvolus has been able to create a compelling solution for its clients.

“We originally looked at deploying in a public cloud computing provider’s infrastructure, but quickly came to the conclusion that this was sub-optimal in terms of price and the support we require to deliver the mission-critical services our customers demand. With Carpathia Hosting, we have engineered a horizontally-scaled infrastructure solution, taking advantage of cloud-bursting to dynamically add more resources as we need them. By leveraging the blended solution, we can also take advantage of additional services such as managed backup, data recovery and storage,” said Kevin Ellis, CEO of Nuvolus.

Ventraq

Ventraq required a solution that could scale to meet the demands of high volumes of data processing over a low latency network. By using the AlwaysOn/InstantOn platform, Carpathia Hosting was able to develop a solution that met this key requirement in a matter of days.

“Our customers have strict requirements for security and availability of our mission critical application. By blending dedicated infrastructure with Carpathia Hosting’s cloud services, we were able to take advantage of its ‘Cloud Orchestration’ technology to allow our dedicated machines to leverage cloud storage and for our web traffic to be distributed across dedicated and cloud servers,” commented John Louglin, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Mediation for Ventraq.

Voices Heard Media

Using Apache JMeter, Carpathia Hosting delivered an elastic testing cloud for Voices Heard Media, allowing load testing of thousands of simultaneous users against Voices Heard Media’s environment. In order to deliver this capability, the solution dynamically allocated cloud compute resources to scale to the required testing requirements. The process was controlled from a single JMeter console also running in Carpathia Hosting’s cloud infrastructure.

Canadian Web Hosting Announces Major Upgrades for Their Shared Hosting Servers and Discounts Shared Hosting Plans

Richmond, BC (PRWEB) September 04, 2013

Canadian Web Hosting (http://www.canadianwebhosting.com), a leading provider of web hosting, cloud hosting and infrastructure services in Canada, today announced that they have completed a significant upgrade project for their shared web hosting servers to take advantage of new technologies including improved read/write SSD caching. As part of this, Canadian Web Hosting has also increased server resources including disk space and RAM, as well as improved support for many leading applications like Drupal, Joomla and WordPress in their shared hosting environment to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction.

As part of the upgrade, Canadian Web Hosting have increased their shared hosting disk I/O (input/output) rate through expanded use of caching through hardware upgrades and new technologies. With this upgrade, each shared hosting server that hosts a website, static pages, web applications, databases or e-commerce store will benefit from faster data rates and end-users will have improved access and much faster load times. To achieve this, Canadian Web Hosting utilized the latest SSDs (solid state drive) from Intel and Crucial using latest 520-series and M4 series drives. Each flash memory drive includes 256 GB of storage and offers improved SSD read/write caching and is configured in RAID10. In addition, every server utilizes VMware virtualization and includes at least 32GB of RAM and dual Intel E5 Xeon processors that when combined deliver overall performance improvements by as much as 60% when compared to other Canadian-based shared hosting providers.

We host many users operating High Performance websites, web applications, databases and indexes, as well as environments in which data is subject to frequent access and requires power and flexibility but dont have the budget flexibility to move to cloud hosting or a dedicated server, says Canadian Web Hosting Director, Matt McKinney. During the upgrade, we performed repeated tests and uncovered truly unprecedented performance as well as significantly lower server load that translates to more processing power and elimination of potential bottlenecks for our customers. We are happy to say that our upgraded shared servers offer unparalleled performance and with our new 50% shared hosting promotion weve made it easier than ever to move to Canadian Web Hosting.

With the launch of the upgraded shared hosting services, Canadian Web Hosting is offering new customers a 50% discount on new shared hosting plans.
